It’s not often we hear about a car breaking a lap record, and it’s even rarer for a car to do so on accident. That’s exactly what the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 did, and there wasn’t even a professional racecar driver behind the wheel. The most powerful Chevrolet Corvette to ever grace roadways recently achieved this during validation testing.
The upcoming sports car was undergoing validation testing at Virginia International Raceway with a Chevrolet engineer behind the wheel. During testing, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 ran a lap in just 2 minutes and 37.25 seconds, which set a new record.
Validation testing is essentially ensuring that the car lives up to its design and engineering expectations. The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1’s testing included 25 hours at top performance at Virginia International Raceway, America’s toughest track.
The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is expected to be an absolute speed demon. With a high wing, sport exhaust, an aerodynamic profile, and more, we have no doubt it will live up to the hype. Add in the 6.2-liter supercharged LT5 V8 engine that churns out 755 horsepower and 715 lb-ft of torque, and there’s simply no stopping this beast of a sports car.
